On the way to Kanchipuram is Sriperumbudur, birthplace of the Vaishnavite saint Ramanujar, and a holy place for all Hindus of the Vaishnavite (Vishnu worshipper) sect.
Sriperumbudur is a village in transition. The old ways still continue in many places - for example, you can see the traditional Brahmin way of life in the agraharams (community streets) around the temple tank, while on the other hand you can see change and industrialization creeping into the village in different forms.
You can also visit the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Foundation. He was assassinated here in 1991 by a suicide bomber. |
