There are several interesting places an hour or two away from Chennai city.
If you have even half a day to spare, you could
go to Mahaballipuram,
a World Heritage site famous for its Shore Temple and
carved bas relief works. On the way, stop at Dakshin
Chitra Craft Foundation , and Cholalmandal
Artists Village.
Or you could drive down to Kanchipuram,
capital of the Pallava kings. Watch silk being woven,
or go see the village of Sriperumbudur.
Or spend a lazy day at Pondicherry,
a former French colony which still retains its old world
charm. Visit Auroville, an experiment in harmonious living,
and the Aurobindo Ashram. |
